The American Dream is possible.

I believe that the American dream can easily be acheived by someone who is willing to work for it. It begins with school and school is an equal oppurtunity place for all. With the resources of the internet and books, a bad teacher would not be able to prevent a kid from learning and preforming exceptionally well on standardized tests. This does require a lot more work and it is not fair but, as all people learn eventually, life is not fair. Great performance on standardized tests in conjunction with good grades can get a student into the elite colleges of America. There the playing field is equal and you have the advantage because you are used to working harder than the rest of the students who had good teachers. Graduating from an elite college with honors can put you in a position to climb the ranks and get your dream job. A lot of this can be related to confidence. A student who believes that they are equal to others or above them tends to push themselves harder to put a gap between them and the rest of the pack. On the other hand, Students who think they are not as good tend to not push themselves and accept that they are not as good. An example of this can be seen in A Class Divided, a test performed by a third grade teacher.
